This skillfully made single tea set, a cup and a saucer, was produced at the world famous Imperial Porcelain Factory. The painting reproduces the drawing of the famous Russian artist Ivan Bilibin (1876-1942). His striking original talent manifested itself in illustrations to Russian tales and epic ballades as well as in the painter’s work at theatrical productions. For a long time Bilibin lived in a village in Tver Province and it was there that he created a number of tender and soulful landscapes of Russian countryside. His works are now kept at the State Hermitage, the Russian Museum and in the store-rooms of the Porcelain Factory where they can be studied and imitated by modern artists who find in them the source of their inspiration. These pieces are excellent examples of Russian style in modern porcelain.
