For the holy festival of Easter in 1913, Tsar Nicholas II gave his mother, the dowager Empress Maria Fyodorovna a surprise – a bouquet of woodland anemones in a platinum basket with gold and white agate, hidden in a Faberge Easter egg of red enamel with diamonds crafted by the master jeweler Michael Perchin. At the current time the original is held in the Forbes collection in New York. The Spring Flowers Egg is a typical example of Michael Perchin’s neorococo style, with its ornamentation of scrolls and rocaille.
