One of the centers of lacquered miniature papier-mache art is the village of Kholui, which has been famous for its expert handicrafts for many centuries. The medieval Russian traditions of icon painting were long ago transferred to the lacquered miniature and received a new lease of life. For this reason any piece from artists trained in the Kholui School are genuine works of art capable of seducing even the most discerning connoisseur.
Lacquer boxes are created by hand using time-honored techniques of Russian master craftsmen. Items might slightly differ from the sample in painting details and shape.
