It is the paintings by European artists – from the Renaissance to the 20th century – that form the celebrated core of the Hermitage art collection. The first acquisitions were made in 1764 when Catherine the Great requested the purchase of 225 works by Dutch and Flemish artists previously owned by the merchant Johann Gotzkowski.
Masterpieces of the Hermitage will take you on a spellbinding walk through the galleries with works by Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci, van Dyck and Rembrandt, Delacroix, Monet and Picasso. Over 1000 full-screen images of world famous masterpieces come with detailed descriptions and fascinating articles.
