Learn more about this object at the museum site.

The first jigsaw puzzles appeared in the mid 18th century, and soon became an entertaining diversion for the aristocracy. Centuries later, they are still favorite brain-teasers for children and adults alike. "Horses at the Porch" was painted by Adam Albrecht, a celebrated German artist. The painter was engaged in many military campaigns, including the Battle of Borodino, and this may explain why he so loved to present the noble beauty and grace of horses in his work.
