A magnificently detailed plaster adaptation from a medallion commemorating the victory of the Russian Army in the War of 1812. The original (1817-1819) was part of a series of twenty allegorical medallions created by the Russian medal-maker and sculptor Fyodor Tolstoy (1783-1873). Conclusion of “The Triple Alliance” played a prominent role in the course of the war. The artist depicted Tsar Alexander II as a Slav warrior.
