A magnificently detailed plaster adaptation from a medallion commemorating the victory of the Russian Army over Napoleon. The original (1825) was part of a series of twenty allegorical medallions created by the Russian medal-maker and sculptor Fyodor Tolstoy (1783-1873). The Liberation of Europe concluded with the capture of Paris. This medallion features a triumphant Russian warrior standing on the bank of the Rhine in front of the river deity.
