This is a skillfully made plaster copy of the medallion commemorating the victory of the Russian army over Napoleon. The original (1823) entered the series of 20 allegorical medallions created by the Russian medalist and sculptor Fiodor Tolstoy (1783-1873). The Battle of Kulm became the turning-point in the military campaign of 1813-14. The medallion depicts a Russian soldier who snatches a sword from the fallen enemy’s hand.
